More about this scene

Michelham Priory was founded in 1229 as a house for thirteen Augustinian canons, who took over a Norman moated manor house. The priory was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1537 and the church was demolished, but much of the priory was incorporated in the Tudor mansion we see in this view from near the gatehouse. Medieval Gothic arches can be seen beyond the splendid cedar's spreading boughs, while the rest of the house has more of a Tudor character.
