Mbhs1957 1964

A Memory of Middlesbrough.

I attended MBHS from 1957 to 1964, first at the Albert Rd Old School and later at the new Prisick(sic) site on Marton Rd. I started in form 3A in the 3rd floor of the clock tower, where morning roll call went: Appleton, Barley, Brown, Clare, Conquest,...and so on. Our form master was new too, Lenard Temple(?). Our Upper VI form out at Prisick was pretty unchanged. Col Metcalf (the Met) was our physics and form master. He was also the only teacher joining us for lunch at the old school site, in a facility situated on the wilder MGHS side of the facility; his familiar incantation for extras being "pie or potato?". Harry Lancanster was our chemistry teacher, Albert Watson and Jack Kelly taught us Math, Des Clayton taught us French, Ken Marriot, music, Willy Watmaugh, Latin, Spike Cherry, English (& rugby) and a wider selection of folks like MacDonald History and the fine arts, and Gordon Banks (gym), under the stewardship of George Morris, the headmaster. There was only one famous expulsion in that era, involving an older contemporary who had a part time job as a cinema projectionist, and subsequently advanced knowledge of the true female form!
Having been blessed/cursed with long term recall, I have numerous tales to share on those glorious days!

My name is Richard Matthews I too went to MBHS from 1957 to 1962. I had brothers in 4 of the other years all at the same time. Unfortunately I cannot remember much about it now nor the names of the pupils or teachers. I would like contact with anyone who could help me refresh my memory
Richard, You should send me a message on just what you are trying to remember, no matter how fragmentary your recollections are for those "good old days"! Thanks to email and google etc., I've been able to reconnect with many N. York's friends, now scattered around the globe.
