More about this scene
The town's fine Market House dates from 1698; it rests on an arcade of pillars that are unusual in that they are made of stone on the outside, and timber on the inside. Another feature of the Market Square is the Crown Hotel, built in the 18th century. Market houses of this design are found throughout the Cotswolds. The upper storey often served as the town hall, while market traders set up their stalls beneath.
