A Memory of Mitcham.
I was born in Streatham Road in 1948 and my life long love affair with cinema began when my parents took me to the Majestic Mitcham when I was five. I could see my infants and junior school Gorringe Park out of my bedroom window and I was late nearly every day, even though I only had to cross the road. Streatham Road got busier and busier which made life more difficult, especially when I had lots of homework from grammar school. I went to Wallington, a wonderful school, I had to take the 115 bus to from outside Pascals sweet factory just down the road. I had a paper route that meant I was up around 6 every morning and riding round the local streets for a couple of hours before rushing for the bus. I was brought up in Surrey and schooled in Surrey so perhaps seeing both Mitcham and Wallington are now called Greater London explains why I hardly recognise them, Mitcham particularly, which has gone a long way downhill since my childhood.
