Pollards Hill Secondary School

A Memory of Mitcham.

I lived in Conway Gardens, my Nan and Grandad in Wide Way. I went to Alfred Mizen and then into Pollards Hill Secondary School. I was in the class of pupils to stay on for the first ever Sixth Form ... would love to hear from anyone else who enjoyed their time in that year.

My name is Eve Stepney nee Potter, I too went to Alfred Mizen Primary School, 1958-1964, and then Pollards Hill Secondary Modern School from 1964-1969/70. I have good memories of both schools. Mrs Sheffield was Headmistress of Alfred Mizen, the Governors raised money to build an outside swimming pool, we had swimming galas and swam outside until October - the Autumns were much colder then! Mr Dawes was Headmaster of Pollards Hill Secondary School, he was strict but fair, he was followed by Mrs Protheroe. I remember the long footpaths up to the main buildings, 2 classroom blocks left and right and the central block for the Assembly Hall, offices and canteen. I would like to get in touch with the following people: Pauline Hall, a friend (married Trevor Pettingale), twins Janice and Jill Moore (Jill went to Canada in her early twenties, she may have come back), Chris Frankham, brothers Gary and Steve (Steve was in my older sister Dawn's year), Gladys Rix (whose parents owned the newsagents in Manor Road) and Lisa Parker. I wonder if anyone who went to Pollards Hill School, or anyone who knows any of these people, could very kindly help me with this? I now live in Horsham, West Sussex.
Hi Eve, I was at Pollards Hill School between 1962-1966. I remember the school very well especially Mr Dawes the Head at that time. I think I remember the Frankham brothers. My best friend was Lynne Curtis (married name Jeffrey) We did have a school reunion years ago that I went to which was fun.
Don't know how many of us are still alive! Being in our 70's and most retired by now. I have mostly good memories of that time
