More about this scene

This lovely view of the Promenade looks north towards Hest Bank, with the Central Pier in the background. Central Pier reacted in grand style to the opening of the West End Pier by building a pavilion at the end. It soon gained the nick-name 'the Taj Mahal', and indeed it did resemble that famous build- ing. This Lancashire-style Indian Pavilion burnt out in a fire in 1933; it was rebuilt in 1935, but it was not as grand as the original.

Aqua Show And Winter Gardens
I remember staying at the Waverley hotel year after year, i must have been around 8 years old and the highlight for me was to see the Aqua show, many years later i performed at the winter gardens Theater in Snow White and the seven Dwarfs on ice. I returned to Morcambe about 5 years ago, what a state the Theater is in now, i do hope it can be saved,how Morcambe has changed, but i still have the memories. Michael (Jason) Nobbs..

Herman And The Hermits
The Floral hall along with a cafe, cinema also had a dance hall as a ballroom dancer and local I regularly attended for practice and competition. It was also the dance hall of choice for Saturday night having the better bands the Central Pier was Friday nights. West End Pier
I remember the Pier just before it changed in the late sixties when the arcade was built at the entrance. Before that it was a walkway divided by a wooden fence which can be seen clearly in this picture. As a child I would play on the sand close to the pier and I recall that the dancing was very popular. They always used to play 'A Walk in the Black Forest' and 'Let's Have a Ceilidh' and hearing these tunes ...see more

Floral Hall
I went to the Floral Hall with my school friend Linda Arnold regularly, we were 17 years of age. There were many groups just starting out. We met Brian Jones, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones when the Stones appeared. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
