My Great Great Great Grandfather
A Memory of Moygashel.
My 3x great-grandfather Robert McMeakin was a farmer in Moygashel during the potato famine before emigrating to Liverpool in about 1866. He married in Derrycortreavy church in 1847, right in the middle of the famine, so I don't think he was really poor, as he managed to have 5 children before coming over to England.
It was great to read the memory left about the sewing in Moygashel. Being a Londoner through and through I know nothing about life in Ireland, and find all the little baronies and parishes fascinating. Anyone knowing anything about Moygashel and the surrounding area at this time, I would be really interested to know.
