Bathing machines, tents and cabins were rented out by George Johnson & Son until 1912. Storms in that year destroyed most of their equipment, and they were unable to afford replacements. After the 1914-18 war the local council took over and charged 6d for tents and cabins. For the princely sum of 5s, the bathing machines, which were mainly used by ladies, could be drawn right up to the water's edge by a horse. The gathering in the centre of the picture could be an orderly queue to purchase tea and coffee, sweets and other goods from stall holders, or maybe even to see and hear travelling musicians.

Holiday
I was born in 1953, so I think it must have been 1958/59 when we had a holiday in Mundesley - but what may seem strange is we had an old scout ridge tent but it was put up at the back of a pub. Cannot recall what the pub was called. Remember my mum going to a shop and bought me a blue jeep with soldiers and that kept me happy all week - does this ring a bell with someone or am I totally bonkers.

Staying In The Manor Hotel On Holiday
When I was 12 years old my family came to Mundesley for the first time. We stayed in the Manor Hotel. It was me, my brother, mother and father and my lovely grannie. I remember loving my stay here, the food was excellent, the people so friendly and being kissed in the swimming pool by a boy who was older than me called Robert. Place Of Birth
I was born on 18 September 1962 in my mum & dad's bedroom at AMQ6, Fraser Crescent, Mundesley-On-Sea. Dad was a corporal telephonist (Tom Gill) at RAF Trimingham while mum was kept busy bringing up my 4 siblings, all of whom are much older than me. When I was born Norma was 16, Joyce 15, Thomas 13 and Anne 12. Norma worked at the Royal Hotel in Mundesley which is very much still there now, and I in fact stayed there ...see more

Happy Childhood
We lived at number 3 Fraser Crescent from 1958 until 1962. My father was an airman at the time. My brother was born in the prefab in 1960. Imagine my delight to recognise myself in the photo. I am the taller girl in the patterned dress on the right of the picture. Mum's rule was that I must not go through the gate without her. As you can see, we are standing beside the road. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
