More about this scene
This photograph shows the lighthouse at high tide with the reef virtually submerged. The light was powered by sperm whale oil. It shone for the last time in 1973, when it was sold to a local businessman who installed mains electricity and converted the building into a holiday retreat. It was sold again in 1974.
