Corner Shop, Rookwood Avenue/Burlington Road
A Memory of New Malden.
Does anyone remember the name of the little shop on the corner of Burlington Road and Rookwood Avenue. I lived in Beverley Road in the Fifties/Sixties and was often sent round for ice cream and sweets. I think it changed hands several times but I only really remember it being run by two, what seemed to me, ancient ladies. Possibly sisters they both had buns and one was very small and thin and seemed to have stepped out of the Victorian era. Next door but one there was a cafe which I see is still there on Google Earth. Then a couple of doors from that was the proper sweet shop run by a couple and their son but that is gone. After that was Shannon Systems (now B&Q) and that was where we stood and waited for the bus to school in Wimbledon.
