So Many Memories Of New Malden
A Memory of New Malden.
I lived at 19 Amberwood Rise, New Malden 1964-1970 with my parents. Before that we lived above the
What O café , next to Champions Timer. I went to Bushey Junior School then on to Burlington
Secondary School. Both my older sister and I used to work in New Malden High Street, I worked
at Luxton Andrews, and my sister at Multi Broadcast. We used to get our lunch from the Wimpey Bar,
the Sandwich shop. I still remember dresses I bought from the small dress shop in the High Street.
The best hair cut I have ever had was at the Hairdressers in the High Street.
When I was young I remember Sainsburys opening. I loved Woolworth . Mac Fisheries hosing down
at closing time.
Both my parents worked for Champions Timber, I used to sit with the receptionist on School holidays,
go out on the lorries on Timber deliveries . I Had a super child hood.
My very first job was with Mrs Star in her cake shop/café opposite Champions Timber.
I would love to hear from Robert who used to work with my Dad Albert in the Garage, we were such
good friends, we used to go dancing to the Woodstock with Nigel, Tania, Eileen.
Sometimes we would go to Brighton on a Sunday afternoon.
I now live in Norfolk, but I remember New Malden with great affection.

Seeing your mention of the What O cafe reminded me of a few months courtship I had when I was 15 or 16 with a girl who lived there about 1960. Her name was Pat Pritchard.
Pat is my sister
