More about this scene
The hospital and dispensary were two of a large number of 19th-century developments carried out for the benefit of the inhabitants. Others included the provision of libraries, new schools, such as the Christ Church Boys' School of 1850 and the Girls' School of 1856, and a spate of chapel building in the 1860s and 70s.
