Newark On Trent, London Road 1909

More about this scene
London Road at this time appears to be reasonably well maintained, though there was a time when roads were anything but. Parishes were responsible for repairs to roads within their territory, but many did little or nothing to meet their obligations. In the 17th century, the only stretch of the Fosse Way known to have been maintained was that between East Stoke and Newark.
