More about this scene

This is one of the county's most famous beauty spots on the crest of the North Downs, providing breathtaking views across the Weald to the South Downs and Littlehampton, and into Sussex from its height of 567ft. The corner owes its name to Abraham Newlands, who owned nearby Postford Mill on the Tilling Bourne, where he made banknotes. Four years after this picture was taken, the surrounding area was the scene of a major police search when the famed novelist Agatha Christie's car was found crashed and abandoned here. She was traced three weeks later to a hotel in Harrogate, having apparently laid a false trail following an argument with her then husband Colonel Archibald Christie.
