More about this scene

Tantallon Castle perches on top of cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth. It was once the seat of the powerful Douglas family, wardens of the Border Marches and lords of Galloway. With its great battlemented walls it provided a formidable defence, and was protected from invaders by a 12ft-thick curtain wall, ditches and lofty sea cliffs. The family had their own comfortable quarters in the circular Douglas Tower at the north-west end. However, during Cromwell's invasion in 1651 the castle suffered considerable damage and it was never to regain its status.
