Nottingham, Trent Bridge c.1950

More about this scene
This brief tour ignores the Georgian houses of High Pavement, the castle and the famous Lace Market area to descend to the River Trent. Originally the town extended only as far as the River Leen, but during the 19th century it advanced south across The Meadows to the River Trent. This view looks towards the 1871 cast iron Trent Bridge from the Victoria Embankment, a view much changed today, with the awful West Bridgford Hotel of 1962 (now Rushcliffe Civic Centre) replacing the trees, and the 1990s grandstands of Nottingham Forest Football Club rising beyond.
