More about this scene

The organ (right) was moved from the north aisle to its present position in 1908. The Jacobean oak pulpit of c1630 was found in the tower arch covered in white paint, and was placed in its present position during the restoration of the church in 1851. Its elaborate carvings depict Aaron's rod and the scroll of the law. During the Second World War it was stored for safe keeping in Wookey Hole caves, Somerset. The painted glass east window was installed in 1858 in memory of Lt Col C W Short, a veteran of Waterloo. The Ten Commandments on the chancel wall were repainted in 1907 by William Peskett, a plumber, painter and glazier who lived in Bury Cottage.

A Selection of Memories from Odiham

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Odiham

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My parents lived in 'The Coachman's Cottage', which can be seen on the brow of the hill in King's Street, 1950-60. 'Lovelace' is almost opposite.
My Great, Great grandparents, John and Jane Crocker lived here in 1915 before they both died.
My grandfather, and his family came from Odiham. They lived at Bury Cottage until at least 1908. I am connected to the Peskett, Clark, Champion, Pink, Lee and Windiate families of Odiham. Regards, Andrew.
My brother Joe is buried in Odiham He was in the Royal Air Force.
