More about this scene

Otterton's village green was the setting for medieval village fairs, and it is still a venue for local events. To mark George III's jubilee in 1809, a couple danced a hornpipe there - their joint ages totalled 180 years! The cottages beyond were demolished in 1939 and replaced by homes for workers on the Rolle estate.

A Selection of Memories from Otterton

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Otterton

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Amongst my grandmother's collection of photographs and newspaper clippings, I have a very similar postcard but with much stronger light coming through the windows. Mine was produced by A.J. Way, 65 Mill Street, Ottery St. Mary.
