This Victorian photograph was taken from Folly Bridge, which originally had a tower and gatehouse and was used by Roger Bacon, the 13th-century astronomer and scientist, as an observatory. In addition to Folly Bridge, Bacon also used the tower of Sunningwell Church near Abingdon.
