Memories

A Memory of Peatling Magna.

Does anyone remember my grandmother, Mrs Florence maycock? She used to live in one of the beautiful cottages near the pub. I think they were very old and were painted black and white. I used to stay with her in the summer months and had such happy times there. There was a farm next door to her cottage and the farm house looked very grand. Used to have two pillars by the front door. I remember a Mrs. Pollard used to live opposite in a cottage with a big holly tree in the garden. We would walk down the lane to the church and I can still remember the smell of nettles. She had a daughter, kath married to Bob. They had a son John. Have tried to trace him many times to no avail. I understand the village has changed now, but I'll always remember it as it was. This was in about 1948 onwards. I think I last visited it in about 1961.
