Pembroke, The Castle 1890

More about this scene
Without doubt, Pembroke is one of the most impressive defended sites in Wales. The first castle was built by Roger de Montgomery and his son, possibly on the site of a native Welsh fortification or fortified settlement. Pembroke was taken by Roger in 1093, during what can only be described as a scramble by Norman lords to help themselves to the lands of the recently murdered Rhys ap Tewdwr.
