More about this scene

By the close of the century, the town had attracted many of the wealthiest industrialists and shipping magnates intent on escaping an overcrowded Cardiff. The residences seen (right) through the shrubbery are their enclave – the grand villas of Bridgman Road and neighbouring Marine Parade. Not for them the common entrance to these gardens - special gates provided most exclusive access. The cannon to the left is a Boer War souvenir.

Special Memories Pier And Baths
When I was 9 we lived in a new block of flats (at that time) opposite the Pier and just across the road from the baths. I used to walk to Stanwell Rd School through the Park which was always beautiful. I actually never ever paid to go onto the pier or baths as the people who ran these places knew I only lived across the road. The Lovely Long Ago
My husband was born in Albert Road, Penarth 1943 and used to speak of loads of old tanks left to rot away in fields. Also some sort of tunnel that was later blocked off. He would have walked to the beach down this road. He used to talk of his dog Peter and how he would throw a ball into the sea no matter how high the waves and Peter would dive in and get it back. Tanks In Penarth
My husband was born in Albert Road, Penarth 1943 and used to speak of loads of old tanks left to rot away in fields. Also some sort of tunnel that was later blocked off. He left there for the Midlands when he was 7 years old and had learned to count to 10 in Welsh. He came to the Black Country and could hardly understand a word of what people said.

Being There
I was there that day, standing with the crowd at the pier end. Quite right, the pebbles flew around when I think back on that day..it was quite dangerous, but fun. Always remember that day.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
