The majestic sweep of the fertile fields down to the coast is also marked by the workings and spoils of man's need for the stone that is quarried from the mountain on this stretch of the coast. Penmaenmawr is pinned to the coast below the two peaks of Penmaenmawr and Penmaenbach. Tunnels were pierced though these peaks for the railway, and in later years a road tunnel was also blasted through.
