More about this scene
Christ Church, which stands between Drover's Lane and Stricklandgate, was consecrated on 31 October 1850. The architects were Travis and Mangnall of Manchester and the builder was Mr Joseph Mawson of Penrith. An increase in the town's population had led to the need for another church and a new burial ground in addition to those of St Andrew's. The burial ground closed in 1873 following the opening of Penrith Cemetery.
