I lived in 31 Snowdon Place in the 70's for around 7 or 8 years as a young child and have very found memories. I recall the bend (crash corner) outside the house which caught out many a car. I went to Howletch Lane primary school and recall the PE teacher, being George Cortney, who went on to become an international football referee I believe. Hi we also lived in Thorntree gill number 65 .Have many memories even though we only live there for a few years 51 to 54.Went to Horden school use to walk there .Remember looking out of the bedroom window watching dad(Dick Hutton )and his Mate (Charlie Darwin )fishing in a little boat.Coronation Day party held at the end of the street,all the school kids got a toothbrush and a coronation mug,I only got the ...see more
I was born in Thorntree Gill (27) in 1952, my dad always claimed to be the first person to live in Peterlee! He used to cycle to Murton in all weathers to get to work. George Muncaster.
Opposite the shops was Galloway road. during the snowy winter months I used to sledge downhill away from Galloway road,. and once crashed into a pile of wood that was covered in snow,I winded myself. Just around the corner in Mansell crescent was the local police station.
