Petersfield, Market Square c.1965

More about this scene
The cattle trough on the far side of the Square in 1965 was about to vacate its position to one outside the offices slightly behind the telephone kiosk, where it has become a feature of 'Petersfield in Bloom'. The telephone box on the left is the famed leaning kiosk of Petersfield where it stands on the site of the cellars of the old Pince's School, demolished in 1898. The diagonal strip of new concrete on the right is the route of new underground telephone ducts connected with the arrival of STD in April 1966. Although busy there is ample space and not a foreign car in sight!
