My parents had a summer bungalow in Camber Close in the 40s. My parents never used the name Coast Road because at that time it was quite unmade, full of deep pot-holes that were full of water throughout the winter. May father's car had to weave from one side of the track to the other side for almost the whole distance from Holman's on the main road to the kiosk near Devonshire Drive because of the bad surface.
im an ex Pevensey bay man born and bread in the bay in the late forties,my name is john parks iv a twin brother Alan we used to live next to the castle inn till I was about five then moved to the centre of the bay. my mother and father we called issy and bert parks my mother used to breed dogs in those days any body remember us you can get in touch with me . johnparks 2009@hotmail.co.uk
We went to Pevensey Bay every year when I was a child. We stayed in one of a row of 3 houses along Coast rd, which were set right on the beach. They were owned by a man named Mr Piddock. A lot of time was spent at the Bay hotel, sitting outside on ancient red leather seats, at cream painted metal tables if I remember right. We moved to Pevensey Bay when I was 4. In the Summer, the three of us would go down to the beach, early in the morning, while our parents were still asleep, and dig in the sand, and play. This was our childhood. We didn't know then how lucky we were, or how carefree our life was, but now, in later years, I have come to realise that few people knew such freedom as us.
