More about this scene
In the late 1920s, Harold George Howard, a prosperous dairy-farmer, drew up plans for a new Pitsea. The Railway Hotel and two blocks of Tudor-style shops were built, but Howard's vision was scuppered by the Second World War. His buildings survived the coming of the New Town, however, and his name is preserved in Howard Park and Howard Crescent.
