More about this scene
Construction of the Church of St Edward, King and Martyr was commenced in the 14th century but the building was not completed until the late 15th or early 16th centuries. It was restored in 1868 by Ewan Christian, an act which Rev Sabine Baring Gould described as 'cruel'. Among other things, Christian threw out the beautiful 15th- century font cover; this was rescued in 1870 from a nearby linhay, but not before the farmer's wife had tried to get her husband to burn it.
