Plympton Staion Signal Box
A Memory of Plympton.
When I was at junior school (I was born in 1946) my maternal Granddad lived in Morley Cottages in Colebrook and worked in the signal box at Plympton Station. I lived in Molesworth Rd, down the road from Plympton Grammar School and often used to walk home from Geasons Lane Primary School via the signal box just to see my Granddad. Probably against the rules, he used to let me move the levers sometimes and I can still smell the oil on the cloths he used on those levers and the smell of the smoke as the engines passed through. When the Station shut down he went to work in the parcels office in North Rd Station in Plymouth. I still have a lovely photo of him in the parcels office. I had so much fun with Granddad and I still miss him.
