More about this scene
Poole's population grew substantially during the 20th century as new industries arrived to supplement the declining merchant trade. The town achieved some status as a holiday resort, particularly as a touring centre and as a base for leisure yachting. On the left side of the High Street we have a K shoe shop, then Timothy Whites the Chemist, Hepworths, the Congregational Church and Lloyd's Bank. On the opposite side is the shop of W P Arnott, the London Hotel and Poole Pottery - some of the last establishments' products were made using clay from Brownsea Island.
