More about this scene
The tower of St Peter's church can just be seen above the roofs on the right-hand side of the picture. In the churchyard lies the grave of Maria Rathbone, a little girl who died having lost her way home, and whose body was recovered several weeks later as the result of a dream by a stranger. The village is renowned for its famous half-timbered Priest's House, which is thought to date from the 14th century.
