More about this scene
Ramsgate is a fine resort, fishing village and cross channel harbour all rolled into one. The harbour nestles beneath the steep cliff and steep streets. The medieval church stands high above the promenade, and has a Norman tower. The town has pleasant Georgian terraces, with Victorian development along the promenade. This prettily-posed group stand in the harbour, where a spritsail barge and her boat are moored on the right. On the left, colliers are unloaded. The fishmarket of 1881, demolished in the 1960s, stands in the middle of the picture.
