This was farmland until 1933, when 210 houses were built. The estate was greatly enlarged in the 1940s and 1950s when a further 1050 houses were added. It looks rather tired today, but the houses were well-built and substantial, with gardens and green space all around. It is easy to forget, with the good living conditions that so many of us enjoy today, that such things were often a novelty in the 1950s.

I am trying to find information about the old boxing club my dad was Tommy Bray born in 1885 he was I know involved both boxing and later training my brothers Tom and Jim both boxed and dad often talked of a man called Heath who went on I understand to higher things but in dads later life he destroyed all his old cuttings and pictures I would be pleased of any info
My Granny Gazey lived at 2, Bridley Moor Road. Because she was crippled with Rheumatoid Arthritis my Mum visited her every weekday morning to prepare food for the day and clean for her. Some of my earliest memories are playing in the pile of sand {sand pit!!!} at the end of the garden. This was wedged in between the hen pen and a fence. I was working in the Needle Factory before Woolies and met my first love. He lived on Willow Way, had a sister, and a little dog; his name was Francis Danks (Dinky). Anyone know what happened to him? Hope he had a good life. He was in the Navy. But life has allsorts of plans for us ,and off we go in the big wide world...
