More about this scene
Perhaps it is the time of one of the annual fairs, rather than an ordinary market day, as stalls can be seen on both sides of Trinity Church Square. The vehicles which the traders have used to bring their wares can be seen in the foreground; often these were parked outside the Market Place in Queens Road. The horses and ponies which pulled the carts were stabled behind the town's many inns, where they were fed, watered and rested, ready for the journey home. Some of those coming into the town may have had their hair cut by Charles Todd, the hairdresser whose premises can be seen at the extreme right of the building to the right of Trinity Tower.
