More about this scene
Percival's Swaledale Motor Services run buses (left) between Richmond and the Swaledale villages. The few people with motor cars park them at will. The ball finial of the Obelisk looks new; it had been replaced in 1907. At least one household living upstairs in the Toll Booth has lit a fire. The Bishop Blaize Hotel (right) commemorates the patron saint of wool combers, sore throats and cowherds!
