More about this scene
Nearer the church in this 1950s view, the King's Arms is in its last years as a pub, and is now converted to offices. The Chequers has the somewhat whimsical juxtaposition on its sign of '13th century' and 'tea rooms'. The timber- framing and big chimneys in the loom of the church tower is The Priory, a fascinating early 16th century timber- framed building built as a church house or marriage-feast house, although it has been a private house since about 1700.
