Situated on precarious cliffs, the village has suffered greatly from erosion over the years. The narrow, twisting streets and quaint buildings attract artists and photographers from all over the world. At the bottom of Chapel Street, visitors ready for a stay in the nearby hotel unload their suitcases from a cart. We can see the steepness of the streets by comparing the level of the Laurel Inn with the houses rising up behind.

The horse and cart in the picture belonged to my husband's uncle, Harry Goodchild. He worked with Len Pennock delivering coal and other goods around Robin Hoods Bay and Fylingthorpe. The delivery business started in the late 1800's by James Goodchild who was the local agent for the British rail parcel delivery service in the area.
