More about this scene
This shelter was opened in 1912 in the area known as the Spaw (a corruption of Spodden). There was a similar shelter near the Fairies` Chapel. The dell has always attracted walkers, such as groups of young people strolling through it after Sunday evening service at local chapels. It was also a popular venue for church outings and picnics.
