Wartime Memories Of Romiley
A Memory of Romiley.
My memory of Romiley was around the Summer of 1940. My family stayed in a stone cottage, there were about 10 of them. They were on the road up to Greave which was about half a mile away. Going in the opposite direction down a slight hill, the road led down to the canal and unused railway lines. It was that hill where I learnt to ride a bicycle at 5yrs old! Opposite the cottages was a lane that led to a hay field, and a style
Being from Southampton, there were no hay fields and I enjoyed
The owner of the cottage was Mr Masters from Southampton, as my family were. His first name was Ettery i believe and he had a daughter Thelma.
As you can tell, it was a very memorable time in my life. and a life style that I relished.
I often wondered what happened to the stone houses and what the name of the road was? If any senior can cast their mind back that far, I would enjoy an update on my memories.
Thank you for allowing me this space to refresh memories from a bygone era.
