More about this scene
A church has been on this central site from AD 937. All Saints' parish church was restored in 1873 by Sir Gilbert Scott (he was also responsible for Doncaster's St George's church). The 180ft-high spire dominates the town, and looks down onto the heart of the shopping area. The churchyard contained 1800 graves; it was closed in 1854, with many of the stones being removed in 1932 and 1950 during the creation of All Saints' Square.
