More about this scene

The wide High Street extends for about half a mile. On the left stands the Angel Hotel of chequered brick, which dates from the 18th century. The hotel was later completely modernized in 1989. As in Cricklade, the main street was the scene for the monthly livestock market, which was held on Wednesdays for many years. This continued until c1938, when the market was closed.
