More about this scene
Built-in bathrooms for most people were still something of a novelty. For the majority, bathnight was held in a zinc tub in front of the kitchen fire, and two or three people might share the same water - though not at the same time. Emptying the tubs could be fun: the knack was to avoid creating a mini tidal wave when trying to move a bath full of water.
