Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

Please Note: Our offices and factory are now closed until Monday 5th January when we will be pleased to deal with any queries that have arisen during the holiday period.

Perfect Childhood Memories

A Memory of Rushton Spencer.

My Mum and Dad, namely Gladys and Arthur Thomas, and myself Judy, used to stay at the Fox in the 40`s. It was owned by Mr and Mrs Ralphs. Their son and family used to stay as well, they were from London. I used to play with their grandchildren, who were David and Susan .I have lovely memories of us playing in the fields opposite the Fox, where there was a stream with a little bridge over it. There were only oil lamps then and an outside loo. But it was so lovely, and really exciting I just loved being there. After Mrs Ralphs died Mr Ralphs moved into the cottage opposite. Simple pleasures are the best.

Dear Judy,
We currently live at The Fox Inn in Rushton James. My husband has seen an old man comforting his wife in a chair, in our bedroom and also a ginger cat. Do you know who these people maybe and if indeed a cat did live at The fox at some point?

Dear Emma, the old man you mention could be Mr Ralphs, and the lady could have been his wife, as she died a good few years before him. He moved afterwards into a cottage directly opposite the Fox, is that still there or has it been demolished? I remember there were cats, but being so young at the time, couldn't say if any were ginger. But they did have a red setter, who`s name was Dasher. I loved that dog he was beautiful. It is so lovely to be remembering all this again, although I will never forget the days and nights at the Fox. Before the war and just after when I was a baby my Mum and Dad had a cottage, it was down a little road opposite what used to be the Crown Inn, which they used for weekends and during the summer months. When they gave it up that is when we started staying at the Fox. Best Wishes Judy

Dear Emma, I just wondered if you read my last comment, regarding the couple your husband saw? As I have remembered that Mrs Ralphs had a leg amputation in her later years, so maybe it was her sat in the chair. And that their dog was a beautiful red setter named Dasher, who I adored.
