Looking into the Colenutt business in Union Street, Ryde.
I was born in Longmead Road, Ryde, and remember frequenting the local band's venues, The 69 club at the Ryde Castle and the Royal York Hotel, also The Seagull at the end of Ryde Pier and the Babaloue? at Ryde airport. Ryde had many famous bands playing in the town in those days, The Cherokees, The meteors, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath to name a few. My name is Peter Smith. I have some wonderful memories of Ryde. The flying boats in East Cowes is one of them. The trams that ran through Ryde, before the underground stock was bought in from London. I remember being severly told off one day for stripping naked and jumping in the boating lake, bear in mind I was only about 7 or 8 I think, lol.
