More about this scene
On the left, Shell and Exide petrol pumps, a sign for Park Drive cigarettes, and new-style windows fitted into dwellings indicate progress. Wesley Street (right) is a reminder of the great Methodist preacher who encouraged the many chapels in the Ribble and Calder valleys. Most of these villages had Whitsuntide Walking Days, and Sabden was no exception. Hymn singing, the village band, a fair with swings and roundabouts, games and races, and washing baskets brimming with sandwiches were much enjoyed.
