More about this scene

A steep road from Sabden leads to the well-known pass of Nick o' Pendle. This essentially industrial village dating from the 17th and 18th centuries was on a pack horse route, but long before that Bronze Age traders came through. Richard Cobden's calico mill employed villagers from miles around in the 1830s. On the left, a striped post bearing the red torch of Lancashire County Council denotes a school ahead. Dressed stone walls, bay windows on the cottages, a corner shop, two early television aerials and motor traffic indicate that times are changing.

Shortly after her little sister fell ill and died and then Reumah's beloved father passed away. Understandably, she used to get deep bouts of depression and decided to ...see more

During the Blitz my mother took me to Sabden to live with my grandparents while she went back to London to work in an aircraft factory, leaving me with my grandparents. I stayed with them for some ...see more
I was born and brought up in Sabden and loved living there, it holds many very happy memories for me. I was born in 1956 Susan Rushton and went to the Nursery School at the Baptist Church Hall before going to Sabden Primary School. I returned to the Baptist Church Hall in my teens as the Youth Club was held there on a Friday night, if anyone remembers these times I would like to hear from them. I have three brothers and two sisters.
