A Memory of Sale.

We used to live at the bottom end of Manor Ave. I went to Cecil Ave Boys from 1962-1966. We had nicknames for all the teachers who were very stern in those days. Remember the headmaster Mr. Jackson who we called the Beak because of his nose. Got the cane many times in his office, but no harm done. After school hours, I delivered with one of those bikes with the metal basket on the front delivering grocery orders for a small shop on Washway Road. Got 30 bob a week, but made more money in tips . Thought I was rich!!
Wednesday nights were the Odean Cinema and Saturday nights the Savoy. Great films then. I went on to work in the legal dept of British Gas in Altrincham. After work used to meet up with mum and dad and my sister in Duncan & Fosters Caffe on School Road. Oooh, those great big coffee eclair cakes full of fresh cream. All the small shops on School Road where you could buy everything. Bought my first transitor radio at (Ithink) was Radio Rentals. Pay day Friday and straight to the record shop on a corner with School Road. One thing I hated was the dentist Mr. Hodgkinson on Washway Road. He pulled a tooth not exactly numb. Have great memories of Sale until 1973 when went to live in Italy. Went back to Sale some years ago when on holiday and all has changed, but have to say great memories ner to be forgotten, but love the 21st. century.
