More about this scene
This view shows the large expanse of water at the mouth of No 8 dock, which was the turning circle. It was here that the Manchester liners and Eleman boats could be turned round ready for their journey back out to sea. Though the official title of the docks was the Docks of the Manchester Ship Canal Company, they were mostly in Salford, with parts even in Stretford. The only part of the docks that were actually in Manchester was the top portion of No 1 dock Pomona.
