More about this scene
This attractive feature was part of the Valley Gardens site in Saltburn Glen, and was originally established in the 1860s when the concept of an Italian garden was very fashionable. Some fifty years later it was illuminated by lanterns and candles in the evenings, and was described as 'one of the finest pieces of floral artistry in the Kingdom'. Some elements of it still remain.
